Starting care at Newpoint

Starting psychiatric care can feel like a big step, so here’s the whole process, start to finish. Three steps, no surprises.

The three steps

Three steps from first contact to ongoing care.

  1. Reach out

Call or email us. Calling is the fastest way to reach us. Tell us how to reach you and, in general terms, what you’re looking for. Please don’t include health details in any message.

  2. Comprehensive psychiatric assessment

Your first appointment is a full psychiatric assessment. We review your history, identify risk factors, reach a diagnosis, and build a treatment plan with you.

  3. Ongoing care

At follow-up appointments, we manage your medication and track your progress, in person or by telehealth, on a schedule that fits your life.

What to expect

  • You’ll see a provider directly

There are two of us. You’ll see Dr. Funmilayo Whitaker or Dr. Anastasia O. Ofoegbu. Both hold a Doctor of Nursing Practice and are dual board-certified as psychiatric mental health and family nurse practitioners.

  • Your first appointment covers more ground than the ones after it

It’s a comprehensive psychiatric assessment: a full history, a look at risk factors, structured questionnaires and rating scales, and a diagnosis and treatment plan at the end.

  • Follow-up appointments can be in person or by video

In person or telehealth services across New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Telehealth runs on an expanded schedule including weekends, evenings, and holidays by request — ask us which works best for you.
